Protective Style Challenge Week 5: Four Fishtail Braids

I bet some of you wonder what happened to week 4 of KandyLand Kurls Protective Style Challenge. Well we wrote about it already, it was Des' Valentine's Day style; so this is why we are moving on to week 5.

Week 4 Style

Well for week 5, Des co washed her hair using Suave Almond & Shea Butter conditioner. Once she got out of the shower she told me she wanted two two-strand twists that lead into a ponytail with fishtail braids coming out of it. It was a great style for her to pick for the time frame we had to do it.

In order to do this style, I parted Des' hair into smaller sections then I sprayed the section with Blended Beauty's Curly Cake Shake Leave-in Spray Lotion Detangler. I then finger detangled her hair and used a modified Denman to make sure I worked the product through the entire section. Once I detangled her hair, I applied Blended Beauty's Down & Out Leave-in Conditioner Butter to that section using my fingers raking them from root to tip making sure I covered the entire section.

So now Des' hair is detangled and moisturized so I take two little sections from the front and make them into two stand twists. I then pull all her hair into a ponytail including the ends of the two strand twists in the ponytail. I proceeded to section her ponytail into four different sections. With each of the four sections, I did a fishtail braid. When it was all done she had four fishtail braids in a ponytail. I really love the way fishtail braids look and so does Des so it is a wonderful style for us.

To preserve this style through the week Des wore her satin bonnet to sleep. If she had any frizzes she sprayed a little of the Curly Cake Shake and smoothed her hair down; it worked great and wasn't really needed till much later in the week.

For the weekend, Des wore a fishtail braid out, her hair was still so well moisturized and the braid out was defined. I love how well these Blended Beauty products work on her hair.

When we first took fishtail braids out.

As time went on, her hair had some shrinkage but very little frizz considering we were outdoors all day.
I hope that you enjoyed seeing our style. If you have pics of fishtail braids you have done feel free to share them on our Facebook page, we would love to see them. Until the next time... Stay blessed.

Baby A and Her Day with Blended Beauty

Happy Baby, all smiles and giggles!!

Before applying products

I would love to introduce you all to JoJo's baby sister, Baby A. Baby A is 14 months old and was born with a head full of hair. Baby A and her family don't live close to Des and I anymore so we don't see them daily like we used to. Every time we see JoJo and Baby A their hair has grown and changed, their mom has been doing a wonderful job. Well this past weekend they came to visit on the spur of the moment, as you can see they were in a rush cause Baby A's hair wasn't moisturized as well as it usually is. I figured it was a perfect opportunity to see how some Blended Beauty products would work on her hair.

I used Blended Beauty's Curly Cake Shake Spray Leave In Lotion Detangler on Baby A's hair which was not wet and finger detangled it. The Curly Cake Shake worked wonders to help detangle her hair and define her curls. I then used the Blended Beauty Down & Out Styles to lock the moisture into her hair. These two products made her curls pop and made them look wonderful. Well we did this on a Saturday night and off to sleep Baby A went.

After first application before falling asleep
Look at those Curls!

The next morning her hair was still moisturized but her curls needed a little reviving from her sleeping on them so I sprayed them again with the Curly Cake Shake and ran my fingers through her curls. I did apply a small amount of Down & Out Styles to lock all the moisture into her hair since we were going to have a long day. The day was a success and her hair looked great the entire time.

LOL, Silly Girl. (sorry for dark picture we were at church)

After hours of running around and playing, Curls still looking great!

I would like to thank JoJo and Baby A's mom for allowing me to share them with you all and for allowing me to play in their hair. Until the next time... Stay Blessed.

Blended Beauty Review

I have had the pleasure of working with Blended Beauty in reviewing a couple of products they sent me to use on Des. The first is the Curly Cake Shake, which is a Leave-In Spray Lotion used to detangle. I love how this spray bottle is designed, it allows you to lock it when not in use, with a small little button located on the nozzle which you just push one direction or the other.  The second is the Down and Out Styles, which is a Leave-In Conditioner Butter. I have used these products together a couple of times.

Down and Out Styles

Curly Cake Shake

The first time I used these two products I had just shampooed and conditioned Des' hair like I normally would with shampoo and conditioner we already had. When I sat her down to detangle her hair I sprayed some of the Curly Cake Shake on sections of her hair and finger detangled and then went through the sections with a modified Denman brush. After doing that I applied the Down and Out Styles to the section I just detangled. I applied it from root to tip of hair by running my hands (with product on them) down each section. I did this to all of Des' hair the night before the hair show she was in since it was out of town. We pineappled her hair while she sleep and in the morning it looked fine. It was very humid that day and I noticed as the day progressed it got a little puffy but I think it had a lot to do with the amount of product I used. Since I wasn't sure how much was needed I did not apply a lot. Lesson learned, it is part of learning a new product. When we got home from the hair show I put her hair in a pony tail and two strand twisted her loose hair without any more product. She still looked great and it was moisturized for quite a number of days.

Twists
The second time I used these two products we co washed her hair with a conditioner we already had and when she sat down I sectioned her hair. I then sprayed it generously with the Curly Cake Shake, I spread it while I finger detangled and then again when I brushed with the modified Denman. I then took small sections of her hair and with the Down and Out Styles on my fingers I twisted her hair from root to tip to create curls. I repeated this process until her entire head was done. Once it was done we ended up leaving to go out of town so she was in the car for a hour and a half trip sitting against her hair. I feared the worst but I was pleasantly surprised when she got out and her hair still looked great.

Curly Cake Shake being applied

Shortly after product was applied
Des wore her hair like this over three days, I have a break down of days and hours in the pics below. At night to preserve the curls, I pineappled her hair and in the morning if needed I sprayed her hair with the Curly Cake Shake. Des' hair could have lasted longer but it was time to go get a trim and so I washed and conditioned her hair before going to her stylist.

I think these products work great on Des' hair now that I know how to apply them, they are very moisturizing and smell delicious. I love how they are packaged and the texture of them. I would love to see how a few of Blended Beauty's other products work. I imagine that they would work just as wonderfully.

Blended Beauty has a variety of products for different hair types and needs. I am sure there is something there for anyone who has dry, wavy, curly, kinky and relaxed hair or heat straightened hair. Blended Beauty also makes wonderful satin sleeping caps, although I don't have one for Des, from the pictures they look great.

I hope this review was helpful. Until the next time, stay blessed.
