Des Introducing Herself to You All on Youtube

This video is a condensed version of what she wanted but she hopes that you all enjoy it. We are working on doing more videos for tutorials and such. If you all have any ideas or suggestions please let us know and we will see what we can do.

Mini Braids Styles

Back before Christmas 2011, I put mini braids in Des' hair. Prior to putting her hair in mini braids I washed Des' hair with Kinky Curly Come Clean. Once she was out of the shower I squeezed her hair in a t-shirt to remove some of the excess water. I then began parting her hair and adding a mixture of Kinky Curly Knot Today and some oils mixed together to detangle and moisturize her hair. Once I detangled each section. I then began parting her hair and applying Kinky Curly Curling Custard to braid her hair up. I parted her hair in a subway tile pattern. I did this to her whole head until we were done. We ended up with over 150 braids.
Subway Tile Pattern

I have done mini braids on Des back in Feb and they only lasted about 2 weeks before they were a mess. So when I decided to do them this time I sought help from a fellow blogger and friend, Shay from Mainly Braids, for tips. I truly feel like her input played a huge role in how successful and long these mini braids lasted. In addition to her help, I also feel like the products I used helped tremendously. For the majority of the time after Des rinsed or co-washed her braids, we applied It's Perfectly Natural Root Food and spritz the braids with It's Perfectly Natural Turn Me Loose for daily moisture. There was one week were we used Bee Mine Hair and Scalp Moisturizer and Juicy Spritz for moisture. While she was in her mini braids we received a Curls Like Us Curl Cloth which we used to help dry her hair after showers.

Des wore her mini braids in various styles. I am going to share a few with you here.

One side up in a bow with the rest down.

Curlformers applied on mini braids after a little bit of water was spritzed on them and KCCC was applied for hold.

Mini braids were in a goddess style braid, see pic below.

Curlformers left in over night on damp mini braids with KCCC for hold.  (week 1 of KLK PSC)

Just down with a headband, a couple of days after mini braids were done.

Inverted French braid this is towards end of the time her mini braids were in. (week 2 of KLK PSC)
As of January 19, 2012, Des has been taking part in KandyLand Kurls' Protective Style Challenge. There are two weeks worth of styles in the pic above before we took her hair down out of her mini braids. These mini braids lasted us 6 weeks and we saw a lot of growth.

Growth varied on different areas of head, approximately 1 inch or more.

I will be doing updates on the other protective styles we have done in this KLK PSC in the near future. Hope you enjoyed, would love to hear your thoughts. Till the next time... Stay Blessed.

Baby A and Her Day with Blended Beauty

Happy Baby, all smiles and giggles!!

Before applying products

I would love to introduce you all to JoJo's baby sister, Baby A. Baby A is 14 months old and was born with a head full of hair. Baby A and her family don't live close to Des and I anymore so we don't see them daily like we used to. Every time we see JoJo and Baby A their hair has grown and changed, their mom has been doing a wonderful job. Well this past weekend they came to visit on the spur of the moment, as you can see they were in a rush cause Baby A's hair wasn't moisturized as well as it usually is. I figured it was a perfect opportunity to see how some Blended Beauty products would work on her hair.

I used Blended Beauty's Curly Cake Shake Spray Leave In Lotion Detangler on Baby A's hair which was not wet and finger detangled it. The Curly Cake Shake worked wonders to help detangle her hair and define her curls. I then used the Blended Beauty Down & Out Styles to lock the moisture into her hair. These two products made her curls pop and made them look wonderful. Well we did this on a Saturday night and off to sleep Baby A went.

After first application before falling asleep
Look at those Curls!

The next morning her hair was still moisturized but her curls needed a little reviving from her sleeping on them so I sprayed them again with the Curly Cake Shake and ran my fingers through her curls. I did apply a small amount of Down & Out Styles to lock all the moisture into her hair since we were going to have a long day. The day was a success and her hair looked great the entire time.

LOL, Silly Girl. (sorry for dark picture we were at church)

After hours of running around and playing, Curls still looking great!

I would like to thank JoJo and Baby A's mom for allowing me to share them with you all and for allowing me to play in their hair. Until the next time... Stay Blessed.

Stunning Strangers: It's a Small World

If you follow regularly, you all know I love to show beautiful strangers who wear their curls with pride. Well today in church was no different, I was sitting there before church and noticed these two beautiful ladies. I couldn't help but track them down and ask to share their picture here. Well while conversing I realize that I follow her on Facebook. Crazy how small the world is. I have admired her work for some months. This beautiful lady is Ericka from Dope Crochet and the little beauty is Miss A. I was thrilled once I realized who she was. If you haven't seen her work you must go by and check her out and let her know I sent you. Dope Crochet has some wonderful accessories that Ericka makes herself.

Until the next time... Stay Blessed.

Hair Carnival: Happy Valentine's Day

Happy Valentine's Day Everyone!!! We have decided, along with some other wonderful bloggers, to show you a couple of designs that incorporate hearts in the theme. Hearts of course are perfect for Valentine's Day but you could do these any time which is great too. This is the first year that I have actually set out to purposely style Des' hair for Valentine's Day. Since Des is getting older I decided to try and play off of that.

After washing and detangling Des' hair I had to figure out what I was going to do. I decided to part a heart in the center back of her head. For that section I did small two strand twist and then fishtailed the twist together.

Once I finished with the heart portion I decided to try to do an updo of sorts with what was left of her hair. I did flat twist up and around the sides of the heart and I also did three flat twists on the left side of her head, I finished the flat twist with two strand twist. With the reminder of the hair I just did random two strand twist.

I took a few twists and made a swoop bang. I then just put the rest of the hair in a side a bun of sorts. I held all the hair in place with little clips, 3 total.

Des takes the clips out at night and puts on her satin bonnet to sleep and in the morning we just put the hair up in the clips.

Here is another style I have done on a friend's daughter. I incorporated a heart at the top of her head and put the remainder of her hair in a braided faux hawk. I did place two beads at the front of the cornrows that I braided into a heart shape. It was a simple style but she loved it and with tweens that means so much. She also told me people at school loved it, so that makes it all worth it.

Feel free to share your Valentine's hair do on our Facebook or our Google + page, we would love to see. Hope you all have a wonderful and sweet Valentine's Day. Until the next time... Stay Blessed.
