Protective Style Challenge Week 7: Twist Out Updo
For week 7 of KandyLand Kurls Protective Style Challenge we didn't do too much manipulation to Des' hair for her week 6 style. Des' rope twists had started to come undone and rather than retwist the ones that had began coming undone we do a twist out. While I was taking Des' hair down I used It's Perfectly Natural's Marsh-Aloe Transitioning Creme to moisturize the length of her twist. Once we got all her rope twists undone they looked like the picture below.
From this point I did a variation of a style I had seen on Goldilocks N Me's blog. This style consisted of knotted ponytails formed in a diagonal pattern. I took the top section of hair without manipulating the way the twist out left it and knotted it on the right side of her head. I then took a section a little lower and did the same but more to the center back of her hair. I took the rest of the hair that was left and combined it with all the hair that I had already knotted and formed my last knot at the bottom left of her head. Since Des' hair is long, I was able to take the hair that was hanging down and wrapped it up and behind the hair between the first and second knot. The ends of the hair I tucked into the first knot. I used nothing to hold her hair in this style other than other parts of her hair. In the end, if you look at the pic you can see a figure 8 which the hair formed. I loved how quick and simple this style was and how wonderful it looked.
I hope you enjoyed seeing how we did this style, the style lasted a couple of days and one day it came down while Des was running in PE so she put it up in a ponytail. I was able to recreate the style later that night. At night, Des keep her hair covered with her satin bonnet and we moisturized daily with It's Perfectly Natural Turn Me Loose. Until the next time... Stay Blessed.

Stunning Strangers: Versatility of Hair
Left to Right: Ms. S, Ms. D and Ms. E |
A couple of weeks ago while in church I couldn't help but to notice these three beautiful ladies all sitting together. I was really great to see how versatile natural hair can be. Ms. S is rocking a twist out, Ms. D has half her hair braided, and Ms. E is looking great with those locs. I had to ask these ladies if I could share their pic cause they are definitely showing exactly how great having natural hair can be. Hope you enjoy seeing our Stunning Strangers of the week.
Until the next time... Stay Blessed.

Protective Style Challenge Week 6: Rope Twists (First Attempt)
I wanted to share with you all what was done to Des' hair for week 6 of KandyLand Kurls Protective Style Challenge. I must first say I drew inspiration for this style from Shay of Mainly Braids and I also drew my instruction from her video which she did to show her technique. I had never actually set out to do rope twists till I saw her video.
Now I need to give you the details. First off, Des co washed and detangled her own hair in the shower. Once she got out I sectioned her hair and applied Cush Cosmetics Hydrate Me, followed by It's Perfectly Natural Marsh-Aloe Transitioning Creme and The Pomade Shop Vanilla Pomade. Once I worked the products into her hair I began twisting her hair. I did her whole head like this in medium size rope twists. I was very happy with the way they turned out with the exception that there was a lot of scalp showing do to the parting.
These rope lasted the entire week, we did apply It's Perfectly Natural Turn Me Loose spray leave in conditioner daily as part of the requirements for the protective style challenge.
Des was able to wear these twists in a pony tail to keep them from rubbing on her clothes. She really enjoyed how they looked as well.
Until the next time... Stay Blessed.

Stunning Stranger: Miss T
I spotted Miss T with her mom at a local park. I noticed that they were both natural and looked lovely so I couldn't help but ask her mom if I could share their pic. Mom opted out but didn't mind sharing Miss T with you all. Mom tells me she tries to get Miss T's styles to last a week at a time at least so that she can help it grow. They both looked beautiful and had healthy heads of hair. I hope you enjoyed our Stunning Stranger for the week. Until the next time... Stay Blessed.

Protective Style Challenge Week 5: Four Fishtail Braids
I bet some of you wonder what happened to week 4 of KandyLand Kurls Protective Style Challenge. Well we wrote about it already, it was Des' Valentine's Day style; so this is why we are moving on to week 5.
Well for week 5, Des co washed her hair using Suave Almond & Shea Butter conditioner. Once she got out of the shower she told me she wanted two two-strand twists that lead into a ponytail with fishtail braids coming out of it. It was a great style for her to pick for the time frame we had to do it.
In order to do this style, I parted Des' hair into smaller sections then I sprayed the section with Blended Beauty's Curly Cake Shake Leave-in Spray Lotion Detangler. I then finger detangled her hair and used a modified Denman to make sure I worked the product through the entire section. Once I detangled her hair, I applied Blended Beauty's Down & Out Leave-in Conditioner Butter to that section using my fingers raking them from root to tip making sure I covered the entire section.
So now Des' hair is detangled and moisturized so I take two little sections from the front and make them into two stand twists. I then pull all her hair into a ponytail including the ends of the two strand twists in the ponytail. I proceeded to section her ponytail into four different sections. With each of the four sections, I did a fishtail braid. When it was all done she had four fishtail braids in a ponytail. I really love the way fishtail braids look and so does Des so it is a wonderful style for us.
To preserve this style through the week Des wore her satin bonnet to sleep. If she had any frizzes she sprayed a little of the Curly Cake Shake and smoothed her hair down; it worked great and wasn't really needed till much later in the week.
For the weekend, Des wore a fishtail braid out, her hair was still so well moisturized and the braid out was defined. I love how well these Blended Beauty products work on her hair.
I hope that you enjoyed seeing our style. If you have pics of fishtail braids you have done feel free to share them on our Facebook page, we would love to see them. Until the next time... Stay blessed.

As time went on, her hair had some shrinkage but very little frizz considering we were outdoors all day. |

Protective Style Challenge Week 3: Twisty Cinna Bun
As I told you previously Des is presently taking part in KandyLand Kurls Protective Style Challenge. This post is going to show you the style Des wore for week 3 of this challenge.
Prior to styling Des' hair this way, we had to take down all her mini braids. I then had to remove all the shed hair while I did this I pre-pooed Des' hair with Macadamia Nut Oil to break down any build up of other oils that may have been on her hair and to keep her hair from drying out when we shampooed and conditioned her hair. Once we shampooed and conditioned her hair she used her Curl Cloth to remove some of the water from her hair.
Now onto the styling, for this style I make sure her hair is completely detangled. I used Jane Carter Solutions Nourish & Shine and Wrap & Roll for this style. Once her hair is detangled, I stand in front of her and she looks down. I brush her hair up and to the front while applying the Nourish & Shine and Wrap & Roll. Once I have that done I begin french braiding her hair upside down. Once I get her hair french braided to the top of her head I gather the rest of her hair and smooth it into a high pony tail. I secure it with an Ouchless ponytail holder. With the hair that is coming out of the ponytail holder I put into multiple two strand twist. When all the hair is in twists, I gather them together and rotate them together. I then take the twisted twists and form them into a circle making a bun. I secure the hair into the bun with hair pins (open bobby pins).
When all is said and done you have no exposed ends. Jazz it up with headbands, flowers, bows, or hair clips.
You can change this style up by letting the hair out of the bun and just wear the twists out. You can do also a twist out with the twists coming out of the pony tail.
In order to preserve this style and keep the frizz down, Des wraps her hair with a silky scarf around the circumference of her hairline and then putting on her satin bonnet.
I hope you enjoyed seeing this style. Until the next time... Stay Blessed!
