Stunning Stranger: Mrs. O

I would like you all to meet Mrs. O. Mrs. O is a member of our church who I met one day after service. I have seen her in passing and decided to ask her if she would allow me to let you all met her as well. She sings in our choir and serves at the information desk as well. Mrs. O told me she has been natural for a number of years and as you can see she wears it well. I hope you enjoyed meeting Mrs. O.

Review: Huffleblossoms (and a Surprise)

Huffleblossoms

You see those lovely flowers up above, well those are HUFFLEBLOSSOMS. What are Huffleblossoms you ask. Huffleblossoms are beautiful hair accessories made out of duct tape by Rae from Tweeny Hair. Rae offered me the opportunity to do a review on Huffleblossoms needless to say Des and I fell in love.

Huffleblossoms are Handmade by Rae, herself.  Rae even takes custom orders. Well I already told you that they were made out of duct tape which makes them super durable and all weather. Huffleblossoms definitely are attention grabbers, people will take notice! Huffleblossoms can be dressier and playful which makes them great for all ages. If fact, the very first one we received I rocked it before Des but SHHH don't let Des know. LOL. Huffleblossoms are well constructed the bottoms are just as well put together as the tops. They can be made into pins if you would rather wear them as a fashion accessory, for example on your shirt or jacket or even on a tote or purse. We got our Huffleblossoms with alligator clips, the clips were attached with pieces of felt (as shown in pic below).

Des caught lots of attention at a festival wearing her Huffleblossom.

Beauties of all ages can wear Huffleblossoms

Baby A is all SMILES with her Huffleblossom on

Des love her Huffleblossoms

Huffleblossoms run about $6. Rae has even added Kanzashi Flowers to her ETSY shop from about $5 to $6 which are equally as beautiful. Just when I thought I had seen it all, I went by Rae's ETSY and Facebook pages and saw some beautiful necklaces, earrings and necklace/earring sets. The necklaces are adjustable to be worn at different lengths.

Hope you are all still here reading cause the best part is coming I promise but first I have to tell you a little  something about Rae and her daughter Syd. Well you see this summer 2012 they are planning to return to Guatemala to do Missionary work like they did last summer. I would love for you to go by and read about this upcoming trip. You will notice as you read this it explains that the money she makes from her Huffleblossoms sales is actually funding this trip. Now I do understand that the economy is not what it once was but I would like you all to consider referring friends and family to her Etsy shop. If you feel compelled to help Rae and Syd make this second Mission trip a reality she has a link on her page where you can do that. Every little bit helps.

Hopefully you actually made it to the end of this post. Des and I love Huffleblossoms so much that we are going to be holding a giveaway which will post in a separate post so be sure to keep your eyes opened. In the mean time go by Huffleblossoms ETSY page and Facebook page, and take a look around both have different pictures.  Make sure you let them know Girly and Curly sent you.

Hair Carnival: Copy Cat Style

So as you can see it is that time again, Hair Carnival time. This go round Brooke from UntrainedHairMom thought it would be interesting to not know who had your blog and vice-versa to do their Copy Cat styles from. I think that this has been extra interesting for all of us who participated.

The blog that we got to do a copy cat style from was Divalocks. Actually the style was a recreation that Tiff did on herself from a YouTube video. So the is a copy of a copy cat style and another neat thing is that each of the styles were all done a different way on different length/texture hair. Stop by and check out the "Zipper Braid" on DivaLocks post.Des wanted to try but we weren't sure how it would turn out since her hair was wavy/curly from her previous style.

I must say that the style was easy enough but took longer than I expected. I think the reason for this is Des' hair is thick and long. To do this style I just added moisturizer to Des' hair and finger detangled gently. I then used small rubberbands by Proclaim and followed the instructions as best I could from the video. Here is how everything turned out. It was nice, a little less structured than what Des' is used to when we do braids but the braid definitely fit what is trending now with hair.

I hope that you all enjoyed our Hair Carnival. Please leave comments about what you think of this style and if you try it yourself feel free to post the pictures on our Facebook page.

Until the next time... Stay Blessed.

Stunning Stranger: Ms. L

Hi Everyone! Hope everyone is having a wonderful day. Just wanted to share our newest Stunning Stranger Ms. L. We noticed Ms. L while shopping in one of our favorite Target locations. I couldn't help but notice how similar her hair texture was to parts of Des' own. I asked her if she minded letting me show her here and she obliged. Thanking the wind for blowing at the perfect moment to show how great her curls looked. Hope you enjoyed meeting our Stunning Stranger of the week.

Review: Flat Iron Experts

Recently, Flat Iron Experts gave us an opportunity to do a review of a flat iron. The flat iron we were sent to review was the KQC Turbo 2 Tourmaline Ceramic Flat Iron which is a one inch flat iron. Along with the flat iron we were also sent a flat iron stand and KQC Thermal Shine Spray.

KQC Turbo 2 flat iron has a swivel cord which is long

KQC Turbo 2 can heat up to 450 degrees

Flat Iron stand has suction cups to secure it to surface.

Here are a few facts about the KQC Turbo 2 Flat Iron from Flat Iron Experts website:

Professional KQC Turbo is an upgraded and hotter version of the KQC X-Heat Flat Iron. KQC Turbo's new unique system softens hair faster, seals in cuticles, locks in hair color to give a healthy, silky professional finish. KQC Turbo Flat iron is specially formulated with a combination of ceramic and tourmaline gemstone complimented with precise heat technology to generate far-infrared heat and negative ions - preserving moisture and leaving hair silky smooth. The result is any hair-styling impression can be easily achieved without the static electricity and frizzles of conventional technology. X-Heat by KQC is the future available now for beautiful, healthy styling.
Tourmaline / Ceramic Technology: KQC Turbo Tourmaline Ceramic Hair Straightener's distributes heat across the entire surface evenly, retains heat more efficiently, and eliminates damaging hot spots. Ceramic emits a natural source of negative ions and far infrared heat that helps your hair
1. Preserve more moisture within the hair shaft
2. Eliminates frizz and close the cuticle to create smooth and shiny hair
3. Causes less damage to the hair cuticle during styling

Negative Ion TechnologyNegative ions are atoms that can stop the growth of bacteria, fungi, etc., resulting in healthier hair and scalp. Negative ion energy is powerful enough to break apart clusters of water molecules. The smaller water molecules penetrate into the hair shaft by slipping between the cuticles, adding plumpness/volume to hair. The bombardment of negative ions also closes the hair cuticle, which is very good for the health and appearance of the hair.
Far Infrared Heat: Far Infrared (FIR) rays are electro-magnetic waves of energy, totally invisible to the naked eye, capable of penetrating deep into the human body, including the hair shaft. It therefore dries the hair from the inside out. The result is that more moisture remains in the hair shaft and there is less damage to the hair.

Features
  • Professional Styling Iron with Ceramic TOURMALINE technology, plate width 1''
  • Produces a dark red color when it reaches the maximum temperature in less than 30 seconds
  • Ultra powerful Korean Ceramic Heaters that provides precise and stable temperatures
  • Tourmaline ceramic plates and multi-layer ceramic heating elements
  • X-Heat generates negative ions to retain hair moisture and reduce frizz
  • Far-infrared heat styles faster and softens hair
  • Heats up in seconds
  • Variable heat settings from 140 to 450 F
  • Ergonomic design to straighten, flip or curl hair with a twist of the wrist
  • For all hair types
  • Creates a shiny, smooth finish
  • Professional 360 swivel cord to prevent tangling
  • AC 110V 60Hz for use in USA/Canada
  • One year limited warranty

I must say that I found this flat iron to do what the website said it would. Before using the flat iron on Des' hair I used it on my own. Prior to using it on either of us, I washed our hair and let it air dry. I also applied the KQC Thermal Shine spray all over our hair prior to starting. When I actually flat ironed our hair, I used the comb chase method. Below I will show you our before pics and our after pics. I am also going to show you our hair a couple of days after flat ironing.

My hair after air drying is wavy and fluffy

Several hours after flat ironing

Two days after flat ironing, still straight

Des' hair prior to flat ironing

Des' hair after flat ironing, can get close to roots

Back of Des' hair after flat ironing; smooth, sleek hair

Des' hair a couple days after initial flat iron and a trim,  added slight curls to ends in front.

Back of Des' hair after trim and a couple of days after initial flat iron; I did bump ends under a little

The KQC Turbo 2 flat iron works well, I used the flat iron on about 400 degrees and didn't not have to pass it more than twice over each section of hair. I also used it to make curls to the front portion of Des' hair after she received her trim. I found it very easy to make curls using this flat iron. I did not notice any crimping of either of our hair. I found that it glided smoothly down our hair and it also seemed as if it did not take as long to finish straightening either one of our heads of hair. Our hair was shiny and smooth once it was straightened; it also felt as nice as it looked.

Since using the KQC Turbo 2 flat iron both of us have washed our hair and found that there was no heat damage or change in texture. Des' curls came back like they were never straight and my own waviness is still there. This leads me to the conclusion that the KQC Thermal Shine did a good job of protecting our hair.

The Flat Iron Experts can be found on Facebook, stop by and check them out, like their page and let them know Girly and Curly sent you their way. Until the next time... Stay Blessed!

Review: Yamerra Hair & Body Butter

We recently received a few of Yamerra's Hair and Body Butter mini's to review. When we first opened the box we were intrigued by the names of the scents and we wondered if the product would smell like it was named. I am here to let you know that these products smell delish.

Yamerra is a line of handmade, luxurious, 100% all natural organic skin and hair care line. Yamerra uses Shea butter, pure essential oils, vitamin A, vitamin E and natural herbs with aroma-therapeutic elements that titillate your senses and stimulate your mind. The hair and body butter is sold in two sizes 1/2 oz. for $12.00 and  a 4 oz. for $25.00. You can also request a 6 oz. Shea soap for $13.50. The scents that are available are Honey Vanilla, Tangerine Grape, Peach Peppermint, Jasmine Sage, Lavender, Healing Lemongrass, and Mango. The website has a breakdown of what each scent's benefit is, which is great to know.

We decided to use the Honey Vanilla to moisturize Des' skin after a bath since her skin has been dry with the crazy weather we have had. I was happy to see that the Yamerra Honey Vanilla was also intended to be used on sensitive skin and the facial area. The texture of Yamerra is very smooth soft solid. Once I ran my finger around the container taking a bit off the top and rubbed my hands together the butter melted nicely.

I applied it to Des' legs first and honestly had to use very little to cover her legs completely. Des loved how it felt going on and how it smelled as well. I must admit I really liked the smell of the Honey Vanilla , it was calming which was wonderful since it was bed time. I was also happy to see Des' face had no issues when we used this product on it, in fact it help the areas that were really dry and kept the rest of her face moisturized without becoming oily.

Yamerra in my opinion makes a wonderful line of Hair and Body Butters. I have used the other two as lip balms and to moisturize my hands. I have even applied a little to my own hair to help moisturize and assist with frizz. I didn't think that the 1/2 oz. size would last long but it has; I feel this has to do with the fact that the Yamerra is made with Shea butter and pure essential oils. Yamerra can be found on Facebook and Twitter, go by and let them know that Girly and Curly sent you.

Until the next time... Stay Blessed.

Nails: Candy Coated

I recently ran across new polishes from Rimmel London called Lasting Finish Pro. The bottle says that it is supposed to last up to 10 days. I decided to purchase them for about $2.50 a piece.

I must say I was really happy with the way they covered and how quickly they dried. I must say they also lasted on my nails without chipping and the finish was very shiny even without a top coat as you will see in the picture below.

I think that these polishes were definitely worth the money and I am going to go and see what other colors are made on this line. Have you ever used this line? If so, how did you feel about it?

Until the next time... Stay Blessed

Review: Little Miss Fuzzy Head Happy Hair Fusion

Des and I were very excited for that Miya from Little Miss Fuzzy-Head allowed us this opportunity to do a review. The excitement increased greatly once we received our package because it smells soooo good. I really can't tell you exactly what it smells like, other than a good clean kinda smell which would work well for male and females. I think we opened it to smell it numerous times before we had an opportunity to use it. When we received the Little Miss Fuzzy-Head, we were close to the end of Kandy Land Kurls Protective Style Challenge so the timing was perfect to use this product for some smaller twists.

I love that it there are directions on the side to tell you how to use it for various styles and all the ingredients are clearly listed on the container as well. I would also like to mention the Little Miss Fuzzy-Head is made with all natural products and is also Naturally Vegan which is a plus. I found the Little Miss Fuzzy-Head is not too thick or too thin which definitely made it very easy to work with. If I had to compare the consistency,  I would say a nice thick cream. Little Miss Fuzzy-Head comes in a 4 oz. size for $12 or 8 oz. for $22, you can even get it unscented if you want to.

I started with freshly washed and detangled hair. I applied a nickel size amount of Little Miss Fuzzy-Head which I rubbed in my hands and ran my hands through Des' hair. I then followed that with a modified Denman to make sure the product was worked through her hair. I actually put Des' hair into a piggy back ponytail and left it that way overnight before I began doing small twists on her hair. The next day I "pinch parted" her hair and did two strand twists to her whole head using a little more of the Little Miss Fuzzy-Head on the sections. I am sure I would have been fine to do the twists without more product but I love the way it smells.

Day 2 with twists

I am happy to report that these twists looked great for the 13 days we kept them in and the braid out was wonderful. I can't wait to see how this product works for Des when she decides she wants to wear her hair out. I really like this product. I found that it worked wonderfully in Des' hair and she didn't require much moisture added over the 13 day period.

Little Miss Fuzzy-Head has a wonderful web page that explains about how this product should be used if you have any questions. Do you want to get some of your very own, you can order it here. You can also find Little Miss Fuzzy-Head on Facebook, go by and let them know Girly and Curly sent you.

Until the next time... Stay Blessed.

*These products were sent to Girly and Curly for the purpose of a review but all feelings are ours alone.
